Regulations on Advertising of Medicines and Related Products

1. Prohibited Items for Advertisement:

  • Medicines:
  • Prescription medicines
  • Over-the-counter medicines that are recommended by competent state authorities for limited use or use under the supervision of a doctor
  • Food:
  • Tobacco
  • Alcohol with an alcohol content of 15% or higher
  • Breast milk substitutes for children under 24 months
  • Nutritional products for children under 6 months
  • Artificial feeding bottles and nipples
  • Others:
  • Products with sexually stimulating properties
  • Violent weapons

2. Verification of Content for Medicine Advertisements:

  • Most important condition: The medicine is allowed to be advertised and has a registration number.
  • Dossier: Includes application and compliant content.
  • Authority for issuing verification certificates:
  • Drug Administration Department: Medicines
  • Food Safety Department: Functional foods, milk and nutritional products for children
  • Department of Health: Cosmetics

3. Prohibited Words in Advertisements:

  • “best”
  • “only”
  • “best”
  • “number one”

4. Regulations on Language in Advertising:

  • When using both Vietnamese and foreign languages on the same advertising product, the foreign language font size must not exceed three-quarters of the Vietnamese font size and must be placed below the Vietnamese characters.

5. Prohibited Indications for Advertising:

  • Treatment of tuberculosis, leprosy
  • Treatment of sexually transmitted diseases
  • Treatment of chronic insomnia
  • Sexual stimulation
  • Treatment of cancer, tumors
  • Treatment of diabetes or similar metabolic diseases
