Prokaryotic Cell Morphology and Structure

Living organisms are categorized into three main groups based on their cell structure:

  • Acellular organisms: These include viruses.
  • Cellular organisms without a well-defined nucleus: These are called Prokaryotes.
  • Cellular organisms with a well-defined nucleus: These are called Eukaryotes.

Prokaryotes include:

  • Bacteria: These are typically blue-green.
  • Actinobacteria: These are typically red.
  • Cyanobacteria: These are typically green.

Eukaryotes include:

  • Yeasts
  • Molds
  • Protozoa
  • Algae

A phylogenetic tree is a diagram that depicts the evolutionary history of a group of species. Since the 1990s, rRNA has been used as a basis for constructing phylogenetic trees.
