Prokaryotic Cell Morphology and Structure
Living organisms are categorized into three main groups based on their cell structure:
- Acellular organisms: These include viruses.
- Cellular organisms without a well-defined nucleus: These are called Prokaryotes.
- Cellular organisms with a well-defined nucleus: These are called Eukaryotes.
Prokaryotes include:
- Bacteria: These are typically blue-green.
- Actinobacteria: These are typically red.
- Cyanobacteria: These are typically green.
Eukaryotes include:
- Yeasts
- Molds
- Protozoa
- Algae
A phylogenetic tree is a diagram that depicts the evolutionary history of a group of species. Since the 1990s, rRNA has been used as a basis for constructing phylogenetic trees.
