Hepatitis C: Understand, Treat Effectively
Chronic hepatitis C is a continuously progressing disease, often with few symptoms and silent progression. Most patients have no symptoms until liver complications appear.
The main cause of this progression is HCV core antigen.
Hepatitis C treatment is recommended for everyone, unless the patient has a short life expectancy.
People who need treatment:
- All patients with chronic hepatitis C infection (HCV RNA positive > 6 months)
- Regardless of genotype and degree of liver fibrosis
Contraindications for treatment with direct-acting antiviral (DAA) regimens:
- Children under 3 years old
- Pregnant women
- Do not use DAA with drugs that have undesirable interactions, serious side effects
Treatment principles:
- Hepatitis C should be treated early, especially in cases of:
- Liver fibrosis
- HIV/HCV infection/ injection drug use
- Women who want to become pregnant
- Choose a suitable DAA regimen based on:
- Degree of liver cirrhosis
- Comorbidities
- Drug interactions
- Accessibility of genotype testing (if the healthcare facility is unable to perform genotype testing, choose a regimen that is effective for all genotypes)
Hepatitis C treatment regimens:
- For adults over 18 years old, with no cirrhosis or compensated cirrhosis, first-time treatment: [Provide information on specific regimen].
- For adults over 18 years old, with decompensated cirrhosis and first-time treatment: [Provide information on specific regimen].
Note: Information about specific regimens should be updated from a specialist doctor to ensure safety and effectiveness of treatment.
