1. Deficiency of Heart Qi and Heart Yang
- Symptoms:

- Weak and thready pulse/large and tight pulse.
- Treatment Principle: Tonify Heart Qi, Warm and tonify Heart Yang.
- Formulas: Yu Xin Tang (Nourishing Heart Decoction), Bao Yuan Tang (Preserving Origin Decoction).
2. Deficiency of Heart Blood and Heart Yin
- Symptoms:
- Palpitations, forgetfulness, insomnia, non-restful sleep, lethargy.
- Weak and thready pulse/fine and rapid pulse.
- Treatment Principle: Nourish blood and calm the mind, Nourish Yin and calm the mind.
- Formulas: Si Wu Tang with the addition of jujube, longan, suan zao ren, fu shen, Tian Wang Bu Xin Dan (Heaven King Nourishing Heart Pill).
3. Deficiency of Heart Qi
- Symptoms:
- Fatigue, spontaneous sweating, pale tongue, thick white tongue coating, weak pulse/large and tight pulse.
- Treatment Principle: Tonify Heart Qi.
- Formulas: Yu Xin Tang (Nourishing Heart Decoction).
4. Deficiency of Heart Yang
- Symptoms:
- Pale complexion, fear of cold, cold extremities, chest pain, pale tongue, purple discoloration, weak and thready pulse.
- Treatment Principle: Warm and tonify Heart Yang.
- Formulas: Bao Yuan Tang (Preserving Origin Decoction).
5. Deficiency of Heart Blood
- Symptoms:
- Headache, dizziness, pale complexion, pale lips and tongue.
- Treatment Principle: Nourish blood and calm the mind.
- Formulas: Si Wu Tang with the addition of jujube, longan, suan zao ren, fu shen.
6. Deficiency of Heart Yin
- Symptoms:
- Five Heart Heat, night sweats, dry mouth and throat, red tongue.
- Treatment Principle: Nourish Yin and calm the mind.
- Formulas: Tian Wang Bu Xin Dan (Heaven King Nourishing Heart Pill).

- Symptoms: Sudden onset of profuse sweating, cold extremities, purple lips and mouth, weak breathing, lethargy, weak pulse.
- Treatment Principle: Restore Yang and rescue from collapse.
- Formulas: Shen Fu Tang (Ginseng and Poria Decoction).
8. Excess Heart Fire
- Symptoms:
- Irritability, insomnia, red face, thirst, sores, red tongue.
- Rapid pulse.
- Treatment Principle: Clear Heart fire and descend fire.
- Formulas: Zuo Xin Tang (Cooling Heart Decoction).
9. Blood Stasis in the Heart

- Irritability, chest tightness, pain, stabbing pain radiating to the shoulders and arms, recurrent episodes.
- Fine and wiry pulse/large and tight pulse.
- Treatment Principle: Unblock Qi and transform stasis.
- Formulas: Zhi Shi (Directing Food), Tong Bai (Opening White), Gui Zhi Tang (Cinnamon Decoction), Tong Qiao Huo Xue Tang (Opening Passages and Activating Blood Decoction).
