Diagnosis and Treatment of Postpartum Milk Deficiency
Postpartum milk deficiency is a common condition that affects both the mother’s health and the baby’s development. The main causes are due to the mother’s body being weakened after childbirth, depletion of Qi and blood, or due to psychological stress, leading to stagnation of Liver Qi, blocking the flow of milk.
Clinical Manifestations:
- Stagnation of Liver Qi: Often manifests as anxiety, irritability, chest tightness, chest pain, low and thin milk supply, tight and painful breasts.
- Depletion of Qi and Blood: Often manifests as fatigue, paleness, dizziness, tinnitus, low and diluted milk supply, the baby not being full after feeding.
- Phlegm and Dampness Obstruction: Often manifests as thick, lumpy milk, tight and painful breasts, difficulty breastfeeding, difficulty digesting.
Treatment Principles:
- Stagnation of Liver Qi: Soothing the Liver, resolving stagnation, opening the channels and promoting lactation (Resolve the stagnation of Liver Qi, unblock the meridians, help increase milk production).

- Hạ Nhũ Dũng Tuyền Tán: This prescription works to resolve the stagnation of Liver Qi, unblock the meridians, help increase milk production, replenish blood, lubricate the bowels, and help the mother recover quickly.
