Chapter 5.4: Hemolytic Anemia

1. Hemolytic Anemia due to Maternal-Fetal Blood Group Incompatibility:

  • Phototherapy Distance: 1 meter
  • Phototherapy target for reduction of free Bilirubin: < 1 mg/100 ml blood
  • 10% Glucose Infusion: 50 – 100 ml/kg
  • Albumin: 20 ml/kg
  • Exchange Transfusion: 200 ml/kg

2. Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia:

  • Splenectomy if Corticosteroids are ineffective after: 6 months

3. Thalassemic Hemolytic Anemia:

  • Packed Red Blood Cell Transfusion: 10 – 20 ml/kg
  • Maintain Hb level: 8 – 11
  • Desferal 500 mg: Subcutaneous infusion
  • a.Folic: 5 mg/day
