Scalene Muscles:
- A ruptured scalene muscle can cause a tear in the middle scalene and the jugular vein attached to it.
- If not sutured, air can enter causing embolism.
Accessory Muscles of the Common Carotid Artery:
- The sternothyroid muscle is an accessory muscle of the common carotid artery.
Trachea:
- The trachea is formed by two sternothyroid and two sternohyoid muscles.
Sedillot’s Triangle:
- Sedillot’s Triangle is bounded by the two sternomastoid muscle bundles.
- It’s a location where the common carotid artery and phrenic nerve can be palpated.
Carotid Sheath:
- The carotid sheath encloses the common carotid artery, internal jugular vein, and vagus nerve.
- Each structure has a separate sheath.
Facial Nerve Paralysis:
- Facial nerve paralysis causes an inability to express facial expressions, with the mouth pulled to the unaffected side, and drooling.
- The cause is damage to the 7th cranial nerve.
