Lung Flukes: The Hidden Enemy in Your Lungs

Lung flukes, a dangerous parasitic worm, typically reside in the lungs, particularly the bronchi (the root of the lungs). These parasites form cysts that contain two adult flukes and red pus, clustering together. Inflammation and fibrosis often occur around the cysts, severely impacting the patient’s health.

Individuals with lung flukes commonly experience symptoms such as coughing up blood-tinged phlegm and rust-colored sputum, persistent coughing, especially in the early morning. Moreover, X-ray results show scattered opacities similar to pulmonary tuberculosis, and blood tests reveal elevated eosinophils. In some cases, lung flukes can migrate to other parts of the body, leading to dangerous complications.

Therefore, timely detection and treatment of lung flukes are crucial to prevent potential serious complications.
