Cervical HSIL: Histological Images
Histological images reveal cervical HSIL with the following features:
- Stroma: Hemorrhage and infiltrating inflammatory cells (marked by circles).
- Basement membrane: The normal stratified squamous epithelium basement membrane of the cervix (pale pink) is marked by orange arrows.
- Dysplastic epithelium: Dysplastic epithelium is dark purple, with high cellular density, enlarged nuclei, hyperchromasia, and pleomorphism (marked by orange arrows).
- Cell axis: Cell axis is parallel to the imaginary basement membrane (marked by a straight line).
- Mitotic figures: Mitotic figures are observed (marked by orange arrows).
- Superficial cell layer: The superficial squamous cell layer is marked by orange arrows.
- Carcinoma in situ: Carcinoma in situ is recognized by surface cells with large, pleomorphic, hyperchromatic, and vertically oriented nuclei (marked by orange arrows).
Note:
- These features are only a part of the diagnosis of cervical HSIL.
- The final diagnosis must be made by a specialist based on laboratory results and clinical evaluation.
