Osmotic Diuretic Infusion Solutions

Role:

Osmotic diuretic infusion solutions are used to promote diuresis, especially in cases of cerebral edema.

Osmotic Diuretic Infusion Solutions:

• Mannitol solution 10%, 15%, 20%, 25% with pH ranging from 4.5 to 7.

• Mannitol may be combined with glucose or NaCl.

Note:

• Mannitol solutions >20% are saturated solutions and should be stored below 20°C to prevent crystallization.

• If mannitol solution crystallizes, it should be warmed before infusion and administered through a filter-containing infusion set.
